SGPA to Percentage FAQs
How do I convert SGPA into percentage?
Find the formula your university publishes, then apply it to your SGPA. A common pattern is (SGPA - 0.75) x 10, but others multiply by 9.5 or 10. Use the calculator and pick the formula your institution states.
What is the formula for SGPA to percentage?
There is no single formula. Common linear rules include (SGPA - 0.75) x 10, SGPA x 9.5 and SGPA x 10. Each applies only where an institution has adopted it.
Is there one formula for every university?
No. Institutions set their own rules, and some publish tables instead of formulas. Treat any formula as valid only for the institutions that state it.
How do I find my university's conversion formula?
Check the marksheet notes, the examination regulations or ordinance, the university website, or ask the examination office for a written statement.
What is the difference between SGPA and CGPA?
SGPA (semester grade point average) covers one semester. CGPA (cumulative grade point average) combines results across several semesters, usually weighted by credits.
Can I convert SGPA to percentage manually?
Yes. Substitute your SGPA into the formula and do the arithmetic. For (SGPA - 0.75) x 10 with 7.2: 7.2 - 0.75 = 6.45, then 6.45 x 10 = 64.5.
How do I convert 8.5 SGPA into percentage?
It depends on the formula: (8.5 - 0.75) x 10 = 77.5%, 8.5 x 9.5 = 80.75%, and 8.5 x 10 = 85%. Use the one your institution specifies.
Does the formula depend on my university?
Yes. The same SGPA can map to different percentages under different rules, so the institution's rule decides.
Can I use an estimated percentage on an application?
Only if the application accepts estimates. Many ask for an official figure or a certificate. Read the instructions and ask the receiving body if unsure.
What if my marksheet provides a different formula?
Use the marksheet. A formula printed by your institution overrides anything a general tool shows.
How many decimal places should I use?
Keep full precision during the calculation and round only at the end. Two decimal places is common, but follow what your application or institution asks for.
Can SGPA produce a result above 100%?
Not on a 10-point scale with the listed formulas, which top out at 100 (SGPA x 10), 95 or 92.5. A custom formula can exceed 100, and the calculator flags that instead of hiding it.
Is the result an official percentage?
No. It is an estimate based on the formula you select. Only your institution can issue an official percentage or equivalence certificate.
Does this calculator work on mobile?
Yes. The layout is built for screens from 320px wide, and every control is usable by touch or keyboard.
Does the calculator save my input?
No. Calculation runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to a server or stored by the calculator.
